Veterinary Hospitals are recognised for providing the highest standards of veterinary practice in the UK and are eligible for British Veterinary Hospital Association (BVHA) membership. Falmouth Veterinary Hospital has qualified for BVHA membership by undergoing independent inspection and fulfilling the highest standards of the Royal College Of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) Practice Standards Scheme.

Veterinary hospitals are required to have members of staff on the premises, 24 hours each day, to care for any in-patients. They also have to provide qualified staff and equipment for diagnostics, laboratory testing, anaesthesia, surgery and nursing.

    Veterinary Hospitals Must Provide:

  • A phone system capable of dealing with the workload of the hospital.
  • A member of staff actually on the premises 24 hours each day for nursing care, 365 days of the year.
  • On the premises training for Veterinary Nurses.
  • Continuing education for all members of the team.
  • Veterinary Surgeons on call at all times.
  • Access to a Poison Information Bureau.
  • Accurate weighing equipment for the complete range of patients (hamsters to Great Danes).
  • Equipment for fluid therapy (intravenous drips).
  • Equipment for laboratory facilities (such as blood and vital organ tests).
  • Anaesthesia equipment for the complete range of patients.
  • Facilities for endoscopy (fibre-optic equipment).
  • Radiographic equipment capable of producing diagnostic images for the whole range of patients.
  • Maintenance of clinical records of all patients.
